Mrs Rowbotham is the class teacher in Year 5 and Mrs Brammer (Learning Mentor) is the support in Year 5.
We are busy with our learning throughout the week. We enjoy going on school visits, learning outside and reading books by our favourite authors. Our presentation skills have really developed and we are proud of the way we present our learning.
We always try our very best at everything we do and we are keen and ready to learn!
In the Autumn term, we read Harry Potter as our class Novel. We investigated Alchemy Island.
In the first part of the Spring term we became Spacegazers and read the novel Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
This half term (Spring 2) we are continuing to read Cosmic by Frank Cottrell-Boyce. We are improving our knowledge of sentences, punctuation and tenses as we retell parts of the story from different character’s viewpoints. In Maths, we are learning about division and developing our understanding of the size of fractions. We will be continuing with our Stargazers topic this half term. We will be learning about The Space Race and creating our own moon buggies. In Science, we will be investigating the force of gravity and learning how spacesuits insulate astronauts. We will also be learning how space physically affects astronauts and how they try to keep healthy. We are also looking forward to taking part in Rother Vision at the end of this half term and singing in French!
We are now publishing some of our work on a website called Pobble. https://www.pobble.com/
We love being published authors.
We worked in teams to solve the riddle given to us by the Chief Alchemist as we begin our new topic called 'Alchemy Island'.
We worked with Alice, from Modeshift Stars, to create parking pledges. These depict what we think is important when people consider where to park their car. We looked at how easy it would be for the emergency services to access properties, whether it was acceptable for people to block a junction or driveway with their vehicles. The Be Active team then wrote to all of our families to persuade them to sign our parking pledge in exchange for one of our beautifully decorated pledges, which they can display on their windscreens. Lots of families have signed up but we would like everyone who ever drives to school to have signed our school pledge.
